Diversity

All local Councils in the North West are committed to valuing diversity and ensuring fairness and equality in the way we deliver our services, our employment policies and every other aspect of our work. We also recognise that our ability to meet the diverse needs of the communities we support is improved by having a workforce that generally reflects the population we serve. That means we won’t discriminate on age, ethnic origin, sexuality, gender, religion or disability – or anything else for that matter. Our recruitment processes are carefully designed to be as fair and accessible as possible. For more details on the diversity policies of individual Councils please check their websites.

The principle of valuing diversity means accepting that everyone has a right to his or her own distinctive identity. It means welcoming and celebrating the contributions that different groups and individuals make to our community and our organisation.

A number of Councils host Black & Minority Ethnic Support Workers Groups, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans and Gay Forums, Women’s Workers Groups, and Disabled Workers Group. New employment policies and other relevant employment issues are continually referred to these groups and any comments are taken into consideration.
