NOWyoungpeople is made up of 9 Councils in the North West – Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan – and we have designed a website to specially give students and careers advisors a glimpse of the huge variety of career options available in local government.

Within the site you can get the inside track from current staff, who’ll give you an honest insight into what working for a Local Authority is really like. And it’s not just about work. We’ve also included practical information about training, benefits and the advantages that a career in local government offers in regards to your life outside of work.

The information will vary from Council to Council.

Careers Advisors can use this site to help match different interests to careers in the Council, and learn about the specific skills and educational requirements for any given role. You’ll also find additional information on training schemes and apprenticeships, as well as links to further resources.

Students can use this site to get a flavour of what a career in local government could be like. We have dozens of case studies, in which you can learn about the individual career experiences of people in local government across the North West, and discover the rewards and challenges in store for talented people who want a job that directly benefits the local community.
